ECHO CANYON

 

Class Length: 2 days (optional 3 days)
Proficiency Level: Intermediate - Advanced
Design Size: 7½" x 9"
Ground: 24-count Congress Cloth, eggshell
Class Description:
Design encompasses popular aspects of the southwest starting with the colorful end of the day sky.  Horses race across the canyon as the basket maker, wrapped in her serape, watches the sunset.  She sits on a Navajo rug next to an Agave plant, the basis for basket making. The life story as told by a Navajo woman will be included in class.

A partial line-drawn canvas (congress cloth) with a light color washed sky will be provided.  The boot shape utilizes a variety of threads and stitches, using batik fabrics, padding, and beaded embellishments with traditional, surface, and dimensional stitches.
Techniques include color manipulation, padding, and appliqué of fabric attachments.  A band of turquoise chips and bronze colored beads completes the finishing touch.  An ultra-suede heel completes the boot.
Technique: Traditional, Surface, and Dimensional Embroidery.

FALL IN THE MOUNTAINS

 

Class Length: 2 days
Proficiency Level: Basic - Intermediate
Design Size: 3" x 8"
Ground: 24-count Congress Cloth, white
Class Description: Capture the beauty of fall in the mountains as you learn to stitch freely worked surface stitches that require no counting.  Student will begin with a partially line drawn canvas to which they may add color washing as desired.  Surface stitching will be the focus as students begin to use a variety of both solid and over dyed cotton threads to create color and texture.  Fall leaf colors in French knots accent the forefront trees.

Fall leaf colors in French knots accent the forefront trees.  The student will learn to use the canvas as a guide to stitch as directed and personalize at the same time.  By the end of class, students will have a working knowledge of obtaining a realistic scene.
Technique: Freeform stitching with traditional canvas embroidery.

JACOBEAN FLORAL

 

Class Length: 2 days
Proficiency Level: Intermediate
Design Size: 6" x 8"
Ground: 24-count Congress Cloth, white
Class Description:
Jacobean Floral uses a variety of laidwork stitches and some surface embroidery techniques. Silk threads, metallics, and overdyed flosses are used in soft colors. Stitches include squared filling, burden stitch, diagonal fillings, tramé filling, Hungarian, multi-layer trellis, realistic shading, chain, satin, and crewel outlining.      

Student will stitch from a line    drawn canvas while learning how to create one.  Student will learn compensation in creating curved areas and gain knowledge about the different types of silk threads.

Technique: Laidwork and Surface Embroidery.
Kit Fee: $80

Student to Supply: 10 x12 stretcher bars, tacks, frame weight or holder (both hands need to be free), laying tool, magnification light (if desired), personal stitching supplies.
 

PATHWAY

 

Class Length: 2 days
Proficiency Level: Basic - Intermediate
Design Size: 7" x 7"
Ground: 24-count Congress Cloth, eggshell
Class Description: Learn how to control the colors in "Watercolours"!  In this workshop you will combine “Watercolours” threads with batik fabric to stitch a geometric design that uses mirror  image effects.  
    
Choose the colors you like and let Pathway guide you in discovering the excitement of controlling color and the effective use of fabric and threads in canvas work.  Students will select kits from a variety of fabric color selections.
Technique: Traditional Embroidery with batik fabric attachments.
Kit Fee: $70

PRAIRIE BLOOMS

 

Class Length: 2 days
Proficiency Level: Basic - Intermediate
Design Size: 6" x 7"
Ground: 24-count Congress Cloth, eggshell
Class Description: One of a series of watering cans with seasonal flowers, this floral display of Brown-eyed Susans and clover is a study in dimensional stitches, padding, and surface embroidery techniques. 

Student will learn to manipulate a variety of over dyed threads in conjunction with flosses.  Student will stitch on a line drawn 24-count Congress Cloth and learn how to make and use a schematic drawing.
Technique: Traditional stitches with needle weaving, bullions, and French knots.
Kit Fee: $70

SALMON RUN

 

Class Length: 2 days
Proficiency Level: Basic - Intermediate
Design Size: 6" x 8"
Ground: 24-count Congress Cloth, white
Class Description:
The class begins with student color washing the canvas.  A school of Salmon with shimmering tails swim above the underwater plants and sea life.  Dimension is enhanced by the use of padding under the batik fabric Salmon.  Beading, seaweed, and grasses over batik fabric completes the piece.  Students may select fabric choices in class. Creativity is encouraged, as students add their own touches to this water scene.
 
Color wash paints and brushes will be available for use in class.  This class will give the stitcher all the needed elements to complete the piece in class or at home.

Kit Contents: Instructions with color photo, line drawn canvas, all threads, and materials needed to complete design.  Embellishments include silk straw, beads, silk ribbon, and a starfish or seashell.

SEASHELLS BY THE SEA

 

Class Length: 2 days
Proficiency Level: Basic - Intermediate
Design Size: 5¼" round
Ground: 24-count Congress Cloth, eggshell
Class Description:
Who doesn’t have a few seashells from a special day on the beach?  This small round seashell box will keep your beach mementos in a special place.

Both traditional and surface stitching will be the focus while learning how to use a variety of threads to create color and texture.  Student will learn to use the canvas as a guide to stitch as directed and personalize at the same time. 
    
Finished piece fits the Sudberry 5¼” round Shaker box or can be framed.
Technique: Surface embroidery and traditional counted canvas work with padding and embellishments.
Kit Fee: $60 (does not include box)
Kit Contents: Instructions, color photo, line drawn canvas, all threads and materials needed to  complete the design.
Pre-stitching: None

SILENT SHADOWS

 

Class Length: 2 days
Proficiency Level: Basic - Intermediate
Design Size: 7" x 9"
Ground: 24-count Congress Cloth, white
Class Description:
Silent Shadows shows my interpretation of the Spanish/Moorish architecture with a variety of black and gray threads.  Placement of shading and perspective with the use of hand dyed threads will be a focal point in class. 

Stitching combines long satin stitches with black work, stem stitch and tent stitch. 

The wrought iron light is stitched and then covered with a sheer ribbon gauze with metallic thread overlay stitching.
Technique: Traditional canvas and surface stitches with appliquéd sheer ribbon gauze.
Kit Fee: $85
